I edited my post above - now the system hangs at the gray Apple logo screen until my monitor goes black. I did buy it from Applestore - and if it is necessary I am able to proof it with the bank transaction!!! Bad news number 1 : There is no support for PS/2 keyboards in Mac os/x, soooooo yes you will need a mouse (USB) AND keyboard (USB). Most of my problems were with the image not fitting on my 8Gb USB stick......formatted size was 7.4 Gb....about 100 Mb or so too small. After you get the new drive working attach the drives with your info on them to the newly installed Lion HDD. Once in the installer I copied over the OSInstall.mpkg whbich meant I could then deselect only ONE core package (the one for additional voices (see post above) which allowed the install The system seems to hang here.
